PRINCE2® Foundation

Summary

This course is the OGC/APMG accredited PRINCE2 course with the Foundation exam. The exam evaluates delegates' knowledge on the concepts, terms and theoretical aspects of PRINCE2. The course is packed full of real world examples and sample exercises, to both prepare for the exam and apply the method in the workplace.

Format

This course is delivered in a 3-day trainer led format, it includes a comprehensive workbook that can be used to undertake preparatory self study. The exam is held in the last hour of the third day.

Topics covered

• Introduction to project management and PRINCE2 - Why use PRINCE2, who owns PRINCE2, project performance
• Principles, themes and processes - Introduction to each of the 7 principles, themes and processes
• Business Case - What is a business case, continued justification, examples, development path, contents and 3 levels of options
• Organisation - Relation to project, programme and the corporate organisation, roles, each role in turn.
• Quality - Key terms, example documentation, quality planning, control and assurance, records and responsibilities
• Plans - Example plans, planning procedure, plan types: exception, project and stage plans, product based planning, and risks.
• Risk - What is risk, risk management policy, example documentation, risk management procedure, identify opportunities and threats
• Change - What is configuration management, configuration management procedure, issue and change control procedure
• Progress - Example documents, tolerances: Timescales, costs, scope, risk, quality, benefit; stages, lessons, raising exceptions

Processes and the application of the themes - Starting up a Project, Directing a Project, Initiating a Project, Controlling a Stage, Managing Product Delivery, Managing a Stage Boundary, Closing a Project

Foundation exam

60 minutes, 75 multi choice questions, 35 marks to pass, closed book (no reference material allowed).

• Sponsors, who need to know what a project manager should be doing
• Project managers, who would be expected to continue to Practitioner
• Project support staff, co-ordinators and officers
• Team managers and members.
